This Lesson We Have Learnt About Memory!
So lets get started!
So the computer's CPU fetches data and instructions from the memory so it can process it.
This is a type of memory and it is called primary memory. This is the only memory that the CPU can access directly.
There are two main types of primary memory. One being RAM (Random Access Memory) and the other being ROM (Read Only Memory).
RAM
So RAM is memory that the computer can access and change at any time.
RAM stores the programs and data that the computer is currently working on. The operating system is also loaded into RAM in order to work.
RAM needs power to store data and is volatile (if you turn off the power everything saved in RAM is lost)
So let me give you an example of RAM. If your at home listening to music while researching on the internet for information to us in a word processed document, the ram might contain the following:
-The operating system for the computer
-Music player software
-The web browser software
-The website you are looking at
-The word processor software
-The word-processed file
-Anti-virus software...
Computers need a lot of RAM to deal with the data that is being used.
Adding more RAM to a computer enhances the computers performance by making more memory available for direct access from the CPU.
When the computer is switched on RAM will be empty because it is volatile and needs power to maintain the contents. In order to supply the instructions needed to star up the computer , the CPU needs access to permanently stored instructions, the boot program.
ROM is a more complex form of electronic circuit that does not require power to maintain the contents in is non-volatile.
ROM
The information on a ROM chip is often programmed at manufacture.
ROM is often used to store program, a sequence of instructions

Binary Logic
What is Binary?
Binary is a number system using only 0 and 1 to represent all number.
Computers use binary because 1 and 0 can be represented very easily using simple electronic components set into the ON or OFF state (a switch).
Logic Gates
There are three main gates.
NOT
AND
OR
They can be combined.

Hardware
Today we had a lesson on Hardware!
We took apart a computer and found the three main parts.
The hard drive
The CPU (Central processing unit)
The Ram (Random Access Memory)
